Danish police on Friday laid charges against three Greenpeace activists who gatecrashed a royal gala dinner for heads of state at the UN climate summit.
"We have decided to charge them with illegally entering state property as we regard this as a serious incident and they will be brought before a court," Copenhagen police spokesman Johnny Lundberg told AFP.
The three were arrested at the Danish parliament where Queen Margrethe II was to host a summit banquet. The protestors drew up to the dinner in a chauffeur driven limousine in tuxedoes and a red silk ballgown.
TV footage seen by AFP saw the protestors unfurl yellow banners reading "Politicians Talk, Leaders Act" inside the porticoed entrance to the palace before they were hustled away by security guards.
Greenpeace also projected the message, "Don't betray our children's future" onto the building and the Danish prime minister's office, in English, French and German, the group said.
It was the second time in less than a week that Greenpeace had pulled off such a stunt. On December 11, protestors surprised arriving VIPs as they jumped out of vehicles in a "Greenpeace motorcade" before an EU meeting in Brussels.
