CALL FOR ART

Toronto Community Mobilization Network

The Group of 8 Leaders and the Group of 20 Leaders are meeting in Ontario,
from the 25th to the 27th of June, 2010.

In opposition to the G8/20 and with a will to transform, people across Turtle Island are organizing community-based days of action in Toronto, Canada. The days of action will be led by Toronto-based organizations of people of colour, indigenous peoples, women, the poor, the working class, queer and trans people and disAbled people. On these days, we call for Days of Action across the world that showcase solutions from the ground up.

The G8/20 Arts Committee is seeking artwork to support the mobilizations.

Send us graphics, photos, music, videos, etc. We want a multiplicity of media, struggles and voices reflected.

Poster

Themes:

Art that reflects what is wrong with the G8/20
that capitalism is a system that cannot be fixed; that these so-called leaders do not represent us; that market-based solutions to ecological catastrophe are unsustainable and only serve to deepen systems of oppression; that these meetings are rooted in war, in greed, in patriarchy, in imperialism, in racism and in neo-colonialism.

Art that reflects the world we are fighting for
A world with self-determination for indigenous peoples; climate justice; income equity and community control over resources; migrant justice and an end to war and occupation.

Art that reflects the work we are doing leading up to, during and beyond the G8/20
community organizing; people making decisions for themselves; and building
local struggles.

How artwork will be distributed
We will start by posting an on-line gallery where people can download artwork to use. In the months leading up to June we plan to print a collection of art and encourage people to reproduce and distribute the images using methods like screenprinting, stencils and wheatpaste.

Guidelines for visual submissions:
Format: High resolution digital files (jpg, tiff, pdf)
For printing: black and white or 2 colours only.
For posting on-line: full colour or black and white.
Need a place to scan or photograph your work? Just ask! We can help.
