Canada's G8 summit set for June 2010

HUNTSVILLE, Ont. - The 2010 G8 summit of leaders of the world's wealthiest nations will be held in Ontario's cottage country from June 25-27 the year after next, Industry Minister Tony Clement said in a news release.

"This will be a fantastic opportunity to promote Canada's priorities and values on the world stage, and it's a great opportunity to show the world the colours of Huntsville and Parry Sound-Muskoka in June," said Clement, who represents the riding that includes the summit's host establishment, the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ont.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has previously announced the location for the meeting, but the dates of the event have only now been confirmed.

The last time Canada hosted the annual summit of leading industrialized nations was in 2002, when Kananaskis, Alta. served as the scenic backdrop.
