Local committees forming to report to G8 organizers

PARRY SOUND - A group of local mayors will meet with Member of Parliament Tony Clement on Friday to help plan for the 2010 G8 Summit.

With the meeting of the G8 in Huntsville two years down the road, the local politicians are already getting ready to represent the West Parry Sound District. The event is expected to bring in about $300 million to Huntsville and the surrounding region.

Mr. Clement said he's formed a local organizing committee, which will report to the G8 committee to make sure the local voice is heard.

"I'm absolutely committed to making this the best local committee to ever report to the G8," he said.

To represent the West Parry Sound District, Mr. Clement said he's enlisted Parry Sound Mayor Richard Adams and Burk's Falls Reeve Cathy Still to represent their respective communities; west and east Parry sound.

"It's an exciting event for the whole region," said Mr. Clement.

Mr. Adams said he'll be able to discuss the details of the plan after the committee's first meeting.

As many as 5,000 members of the media are to attend the summit in Huntsville in 2010.
