The Capitalist crisis…

…reaches evermore people in everyday life in 2009. It is not just a problem of the poor regulation of banks - the crisis is capitalism and has many faces: poverty, hunger, climate catastrophe, war over access to raw materials, financial market crash and economic crisis.

We demand that the agents and profiteers of the crisis foot the bill. We will not accept that it be paid by employees, the unemployed, retirees, school and university students, and the people of the global South.

As the financial crisis has spurred a global economic recession the reality of the situation is being faced by us all – price hikes and wage cuts, job losses, spiralling debt and repossessions.

The institutions of government and global finance are making us pay for their mistakes, giving themselves hefty bonuses for the privilege.

As big banks get billions of our money to bail them out, the Post Office is threatened with privatisation and mass redundancies to claw back the pension hole!

In 2009, as millions are made unemployed by the bankruptcy of neoliberalism, hopefully all insurgent people and networks out there will unite on the 1st of May for a global mayday against financial capitalism and state repression, and for social redistribution and self-emancipation...

APRIL 1st (Financial&Fossil Fools Day)

On 28th March thousands will march through London as part of a global campaign to challenge the G20, ahead of their 2nd April summit on the global financial crisis.
Even before the banking collapse, the world suffered poverty, inequality and the threat of climate chaos. The world has followed a financial model that has created an economy fuelled by ever-increasing debt, both financial and environmental.
Our future depends on creating an economy based on fair distribution of wealth, decent jobs for all and a low carbon future.
There can be no going back to business as usual.
People from all over the country will join the march on March 28.

Our message is clear. We must put people first.

More than 150 representatives of trade unions, farmers’ movements, global justice groups, environmental groups, development groups, migrants’ groups, faith-based groups, women’s groups, the have-not movements, student and youth groups, and anti-poverty groups from all over Europe gathered on the 10th and 11th of January 2009 in Paris to analyse collectively the current crises, to develop joint strategies and to discuss joint demands and alternatives in response to these crises.

Let’s inaugurate the Obama era with a focus on (anti) capitalism. Economic collapse is on the tip of every tongue. Capitalism is facing its most debilitating crisis in nearly a century. G20 leaders have committed to revive the Doha round of global trade talks–the WTO is back again. Rather than converging on the inaugural route, we’ll bring resistance to the doorsteps of the banks, trade ministers, and corporate elite. Come dressed in festive attire, ready to party.
