LONDON (AP) - Britain's police watchdog is investigating a new allegation that an officer assaulted a woman during protests over the Group of 20 summit in London, the watchdog said Tuesday.
It is the Independent Police Complaints Commission's fifth inquiry into police conduct during the demonstrations in the heart of London's financial district on April 1 and 2.
Activists and anarchists repeatedly clashed with riot police as delegates from the 20 leading world economies gathered in the British capital for a meeting on how to turn around the global economy.
The crowd control tactics of police were called into question when newspaper vendor Ian Tomlinson died during the protests. Video emerged of him apparently being shoved to the ground by an officer shortly before his death.
That and other video from the clashes prompted London Police Commissioner Paul Stephenson to order an investigation into how Scotland Yard handles protests.
The police watchdog was already looking into the circumstances surrounding Tomlinson's death, as well as other reported assaults.
It said the new complaint was received late last month but gave no further detail about the nature of the allegation or the woman involved.
