Six people were arrested after protesters scuffled with police during a demonstration against the G8 University Summit in Vancouver Friday.

Police say three men and three women rallying for the Peoples Street Summit in Opposition to the G8 repeatedly were arrested after they tried to storm the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel.

A group of about 80 demonstrators blocked Canada Place Way in an attempt to stop the meeting’s delegates from leaving the hotel.

Additional officers were called in to bolster the ranks and help disperse the group, which police say caused “significant damage” to their bicycles and equipment.

Const. Jana McGuinness said that while the rally began peacefully, officers recognized “a handful” of people wearing masks and black clothing from previous protests. She did not specify if protesters were the same ones who participated in the black bloc demonstration on the first day of the Olympics which saw store windows and vehicles vandalized.
