Border-obstacle crossing point in Flensburg

Hopefully, many people from all over the world will travel to the COP15-summit in Copenhagen.
Unfortunately, we must presume that there will be strict border controls at and around the time of the summit, including denial of entry for some people. In order to support those comrades travelling to the the summit there will be a border-obstacle crossing point in Flensburg.
We want to help and show our solidarity those people who may encounter any problems entering Denmark by means of a legal team*, info-telephone and contact point in Flensburg – Infoladen Subtilus. We can support the people concerned within a limited framework through publicity and help in legal matters where possible. In case of emergency we can also offer cheap food and places to sleep.
We also presume that some protesters will be deported for some reason or other. If any deported people should arrive in Flensburg, they can notify us via the info-phone or at the contact point and on arrival they will receive tea or coffee, something to eat and/or somewhere to sleep…

Climate protestors face sleeping in prison gyms

Prisons prepare for an influx of detainees during the UN Climate Change Conference happening in two weeks

Overcrowding in the country’s prisons means protestors arrested during the climate conference will be held in uncomfortable conditions.

Climate activists are gearing up for the UN Climate Change Conference in two weeks, but face harsh jail conditions if arrested.

Legislation was recently tightened to allow police to hold protestors for up to 40 days if they hinder police work and the already overstretched prison service is gearing up for new arrivals.

Denmark approves new police powers ahead of Copenhagen

Controversial legislation gives police sweeping powers of ‘pre-emptive’ arrest and extends custodial sentences for acts of civil disobedience

The Danish parliament today passed legislation which will give police sweeping powers of “pre-emptive” arrest and extend custodial sentences for acts of civil disobedience. The “deeply worrying” law comes ahead of the UN climate talks which start on 7 December and are expected to attract thousands of activists from next week.

Under the new powers, Danish police will be able to detain people for up to 12 hours whom they suspect might break the law in the near future. Protesters could also be jailed for 40 days under the hurriedly drafted legislation dubbed by activists as the “turmoil and riot” law. The law was first announced on 18 October.

Geneva: Police Use Tear Gas On WTO Protest

Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets Saturday to separate violent demonstrators from a protest of a meeting of top world trade officials, but the hooded “black bloc” activists were able to cause damage before 14 were arrested, spokesmen said.

The protesters set fire to at least four cars, broke shop windows and committed other acts of violence Saturday, police spokesman Patrick Puhl said.

Police Chief Monica Bonfati said officers arrested four looters in addition to the protesters. No injuries to police or protesters were reported, police said.

Vancouver Police Acquire LRAD Crowd Control Acoustic Weapon

Vancouver Police have acquired a Long-Range Acoustic Device (MRAD) for use in crowd control during the 2010 Olympics. The LRAD emits a high frequency noise that can disorient & injure people caught within its range. A LRAD was recently used during the G20 protests in Pittsgurgh. Vancouver cops claim the device is only to be used as a public address system... and any water cannons they purchase will only be used for watering lawns...

G20 police chief accused of misleading MPs about undercover mission

Inquiry finds undercover police deployed at G20 protests to spy on activists, contrary to Bob Broadhurst’s denial to MPs

A Scotland Yard commander was accused of misleading parliament tonight after an inquiry found that undercover police were secretly deployed at the G20 protests to spy on activists, contrary to the police chief’s denials.

Commander Bob Broadhurst, who had overall command of the G20 policing operation, told the home affairs select committee in May that “no plain clothes officers [were] deployed at all” during the demonstrations in the City of London.
