Decision pending on G20 summit moving to Toronto

Officials in the Prime Minister's Office said no decision has yet been taken on whether to move the G20 summit from Huntsville, Ont., to Toronto.

Huntsville will still play host to G8 delegations in late June, said Sara MacIntyre, associate press secretary for Prime Minister Stephen Harper, but she confirmed plans for the G20 are still up in the air.

"We haven't made a decision with respect to location," she said Wednesday.

Concern that Huntsville would be not able to accommodate all the participants coming from G20 nations are partly why the switch is being considered. Preparations for the G8 have been in the works in Huntsville for over a year but the addition of the G20 event was only announced in September.

Mayor David Miller's office said no formal discussions have taken place about the G20 coming to Toronto, but that the city would be open to the idea.
