Call of activists of the radical social movement "FrontAIDs" for carrying out the Day of united actions against pharmaceutical multinational corporations on July the 14th in the framework of the "Anti-G8 2006" Campaign

On the background of the never-ending war for oil, we, the activists of FrontAIDs, call to pay attention to another war: A war that has been lasted for several decades. A war that has already taken tens of millions of lives. A war that has involved every continent. A war that has become a standard of indifference and cynicism. The war of marauders at the battlefield of mankind with socially important infections (AIDS, hepatitis, tuberculosis, malaria).

The global epidemic of HIV/AIDS is more than 20 years old; there are more than 40 million HIV-positive people. There is no region that is not drawn into pandemic. There are only 5% of more than 20 million people needing ARV therapy that get the cure necessary for life. HCV pandemic has touched more than 500 million people while the cure is available for 1% only. Tuberculosis still takes 5000 lives every day, majority of new cases of tuberculosis are caused by a cross-resistant form of the disease ? the form that is unaffected by treatment with medications developed 50 years ago, and new medications are inaccessible due to its high price.

What is HIV for pharmaceutical corporations???

People infected with HIV get treatment in the way of supportive therapy that doesn?t provide complete recovery and dooms people to lifelong taking of these medications, prices for which are fixed by pharmaceutical Multinational Corporations. These corporations are interested in spreading epidemics in the world as a market for their production distribution. They are not interested in developing principally new medications because of their fear to lose a gigantic, permanently escalating market.

Prime cost of the medications is not more than 5% of their actual price, and 95% Multinational Corporations get owing to the patent for medicine, which they haven?t even developed but commanded and redeemed from small research laboratories. All their activities are protected with the patent law. People are dying because of the lack of the medical supplies understanding that their death is protected by patents, patents for the medicines they can?t receive due to its high price, patents that allow protecting intellectual property of pharmaceutical corporations and earning them some more milliards, patents that move the death of millions of the people from a category of war crimes into the field of ?international patent law?.

We, people touched with the epidemic, appeal to the world community to fight against a more awful EVIL than the HI virus itself, against the EVIL that has disdained all the mankind values, against the EVIL that has turned people?s bodies into their commercial interest. We appeal to the fight against several dozens of unprincipled moneymakers formed an oligarchic clan, to the war against the current patent system in the field of treating infectious diseases.

We call for the alienation of the patents of pharmaceutical corporations in favor of the world community.

We call for the international investigation and summon for the trial on crimes against humanity to the top-managers of those corporations whose activities hamper the development of remedial treatment for socially significant infections (HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis, malaria). On July the 14th, on the Day of united actions against G8 policy, we call the worldwide networks of resistance to the spreading HIV/AIDS epidemics and all the people who care for their future to support direct actions against pharmaceutical multinational corporations.
